EI Global Microscope

The Economist Impact Unit commissioned us to create a VO driven animation to highlight the findings of the yearly Global Microscope, an investigation into global financial inclusion. We were tasked with developing a script and a creative to portray some of the key findings in this year’s report. I worked with a talented team of producers and illustrators to conceptualise, storyboard, illustrate and animate the final animation, alongside a static infographic to be shared internally and with key clients. The animation and infographic were published on the EI social and YouTube channels as well played at key events.

Role – Lead Creative & Animator

My role as lead creative and animator involved interpreting a voice over script and developing a set of visual ideas to portray the statements in a 2-minute animation and static infographic. Working with 2 talented illustrators, we developed a visual abstract style which I brought to life with motion. This was an exciting design challenge using simple shapes and movement to convey complex points about the financial world, this is one of my favourite projects, allowing complete creativity from conceptualisation to delivery. I developed visual ideas as sketches which I brought to our illustrators to create illustrations in our developed style. I then took the illustrations and created the final animation using After Effects and Cinema 4D.
